Chemical toughening<\/strong> is an advanced glass strengthening process based on ion exchange<\/strong>, enhancing both the surface strength<\/strong> and thermal resistance<\/strong> of the glass without altering its appearance. This makes it ideal for aesthetic architectural applications, electronic displays, and specialized glazing systems<\/strong>.<\/p>

How It Works<\/strong><\/p>

  1. Preparation<\/strong> \u2013 The glass is meticulously cleaned to ensure an uncontaminated surface.<\/p><\/li>

  2. Ion Exchange<\/strong> \u2013 Glass is immersed in a high-purity potassium nitrate (KNO\u2083)<\/strong> bath at 380\u2013450\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>

    • Smaller sodium ions (Na\u207a)<\/strong> in the glass surface are replaced by larger potassium ions (K\u207a)<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>

    • This exchange creates compressive stress<\/strong> on the surface layer, increasing strength.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li>

    • Stress Layer Formation<\/strong> \u2013 The ion exchange forms a toughened layer up to 100 microns deep<\/strong>, greatly enhancing resistance to cracking and impact.<\/p><\/li>
